The city

The foundation of Alassio dates back to the tenth century when , near the church of Sant'Anna ai Monti, the first settled and other families settled on the hill behind the current township at Our Lady of Grace , in the place known since then as Castè . Here you can still see one of the oldest coats of arms of Alassio. The feud in the eleventh century was in possession of the Benedictine monks from the Gallinara island and later came under the control of Albenga who administered the town until the sixteenth century.

Towards the end of the nineteenth century , as was in other coastal municipalities of the two coasts of Liguria, Alassio became an important tourist center due to a large presence of tourists of British nationality - among the Hanbury family , creators of the botanical gardens homonyms of Ventimiglia - who contributed to the economic development and the emergence of tourism in the city.

Today Alassio is called the " Pearl of the Riviera " not only for its unquestionable beauty of the landscape but also for the variety and quality of the tourism offer . The Beaches , the food and wine and shopping are the strengths of our reality.
